Dr. Hong Chen received her medical training from Luzhou Medical College in China. She also obtained a master degree in TCM gynecology from Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and a Ph.D. in TCM dermatology from the same school. Dr. Chen also did postdoctoral research on Chinese herbs and neuronal regeneration in Biochemistry Department, New York University School of Medicine. Dr. Chen has practiced and taught TCM in various schools in both China and the US. She has published many research studies in TCM dermatology and gynecology. She currently practices TCM in Miami area.

TCM has become increasingly popular as a mode to treat skin disorders. Dr. Hong Chen’s class will give a general introduction to using TCM to treat dermatological disorders, to discuss the application of TCM for eczema, psoriasis, acne and urticaria. This course will provide an overview of the rationale, efficacy, mechanism of action of TCM treatments and the safety of acupuncture in dermatology.

Course Objectives of the course include:

· To introduce the anatomy of skin structure.

· To familiarize students with the description and differentiation of skin lesions.

· To teach the students how to do diagnosis and treat the common skin diseases: psoriasis, eczema, urticaria and acne.

· The safety and contraindication of acupuncture when treating skin diseases.
